Welcome to
Basket Range Wine
Our vineyard is set across three hillside plantings, creating a series of unique microclimates.
The steep terrain here offers differing slopes and aspects, producing distinctive growing conditions for our different vine varieties — all of which define the resulting wine.
South-facing slopes provide cooler, sheltered sites for Pinot Noir, while west- and north-facing blocks receive warmer afternoon sun that’s ideal for later-ripening varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon.
We aim to make wines that reflect our unique vineyard, creating small and considered blends of the highest quality.
Among the first Adelaide Hills vines
In 1980, Phillip Broderick planted the first vineyard in South Australia’s Basket Range. It was a formative time for the Adelaide Hills Wine Region, alongside the first vines being planted in the Piccadilly Valley.
Two generations of winemakers
Phillip’s sons Louis and Sholto grew up in the vineyard, working alongside their father from a young age. After formally studying viticulture and oenology, Sholto Broderick took over in 2016. He now manages manages the vineyard and winery.
“If you like drinking elegant reds made from the so-called Bordeaux family of grape varieties — Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot — I have a tip for you: get on to a small producer called Basket Range Wine in the Adelaide Hills.”
— Max Allen, Australian wine writer

A mix of elevations and aspects
Despite its small size, our 13.5-acre Basket Range vineyard undulates across multiple hillsides, creating varied aspects and diverse soils that develop interesting flavours and winemaking. Our entire vineyard is cultivated using sustainable practices.
Cool-climate Bordeaux varieties
Warm north-facing aspects in the vineyard are ideal for ripening our Bordeaux varieties — Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot — yielding elegant, cool-climate wines. Other slopes, with their cooler exposure, are perfect for growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
