Basket Range Wine was brought into being by Phillip Broderick in 1980 at Basket Range, situated between Lenswood and the Piccadilly Valley in the cool climate Adelaide Hills.  Our first vineyard soon gave way to our current position a little higher up the hill and of many more hectares.

A sunny aspect and steep slopes produce consistently high quality grapes - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Pinot Noir and Saperavi.  Each year a small proportion is retained to produce the Basket Range Cabernet Blend, as well as a Pinot when Phillip is moved to do so.  We look forward to the Saperavi becoming productive so it can join the range.

Each vintage Vino Cotto is made, using the traditional method, and always popular.

Semillon 2015

Our 2016 Pinot Noir has been released and is ready to go. In order to balance acidity with fullness/Pinot character, we picked twice; first early in the season when the fruit had a higher acid and then later with a higher baume and more complexity. The two ferments were both left on skins for about 10 days before pressing and eventually blended. We bottled just under 100 dozen of the Pinot.

The 2016 Merlot has just been released too, along with the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot Blend, both ready to go.  These Bordeaux varieties reflect the variety of soil types across the vineyard, in their minerality and fantastic spice. Both wines are well structured, complex and elegant with the Cabernet offering savoury notes and great tannins, complemented by the roundness of the Merlot.

Semillon 2015

94 points from Gary Walsh, The Wine Front:

A richer style of Semillon with gentle spice, ripe limes, maybe something like white nectarine and a subtle sweet grassy perfume. It’s flavoursome, but intense and focussed, and really bursts through the palate and keeps running with superb flinty length. Dry and almost chalky in the texture department. Raw almond in the aftertaste? I’d suspect it will develop honeyed flavours with bottle age and develop for quite a long time, though it’s lovely to drink young.
